Student Research Training Program (SRTP)

Student Research Training Program (SRTP) is a new program carried out by the university to cultivate all-round talents and encourage their enterprising spirits and research abilities. It has several purposes: first, to provide opportunities for undergraduates to learn the latest development in their specialties; second, to cultivate their research and innovative abilities by taking full advantage of the comprehensive and abundant research resources; third, to encourage students to apply theories into practice; and fourth, to nurture teamwork awareness and communicative abilities.

Since 1998, SRTP, an annual activity, has been conducted 8 sessions with 75%-80% of total undergraduates involved. In 2005, there were 1000 applications at the university level and 1239 applications at the school level.

Subject Contest: Zhejing University regards subject contests as a significant component to combine teaching in and after class and to improve student practice and innovative abilities. It encourages students to participate in subject contests of varied sorts at various levels, such as mathematic modeling, program device, electronic device, enterprising plan, mechanical device, robots production, electronic commerce, multi-media device, etc. In recent years, more and more students participate in the contests with outstanding results. Zhejiang University won INFORMS prize in 2003 and in 1999 respectively, entered the international finals in Program Device Contest for three consecutive years, and won the third place in the robots video show contest.

Meanwhile, the university has held eight academic festivals of computer, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, information and foreign language, involving ten thousands students every year.
